Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how Kutsu.me uses cookies and similar technologies in accordance with the EU ePrivacy Directive and GDPR.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Browsers also offer local storage, which keeps information on your device in the same way. This policy covers both and, for short, calls them all cookies.

2. Types of Cookies We Use

2.1. Strictly Necessary (Required)

These are what make the service work at all. Without them you could not stay signed in, and a guest could not return to an answer they already gave:

  • Staying signed in - a sign-in token kept in your browser's local storage for up to 30 days
  • guest_id - a cookie that remembers which guest reserved a gift or cast a vote, so you can change your own answer (6 months)
  • inv_privacy_… - a cookie that remembers you entered the password for a protected invitation (7 days)
  • Your RSVP - kept in local storage so you can reopen your own response
  • Your cookie choice itself, so we do not ask again on every page

always on

These do not require consent, because the service you asked for cannot work without them.

2.2. Preferences

Stored on your device only once you make a choice, and only to hand that choice back to you:

  • The language you picked
  • Unsaved changes in the invitation editor, so a closed tab does not lose your work
  • Small view settings, such as how you sorted a guest list

always on

These are written to your browser's local storage when you choose something, never before, so they do not require separate consent.

2.3. Analytics Cookies

We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited, to see how visitors find and use Kutsu.me. It loads only after you accept analytics cookies.

  • The _ga and _ga_* cookies tell repeat visits apart and group them into sessions (up to 12 months)
  • Pages viewed, approximate region, device type, browser and referring site, including the campaign tags (utm_… and ad click IDs) on the link that brought you here
  • Milestones such as creating an account, publishing an invitation or buying a plan, with the plan and its price - never your name, email address or which invitation it was
  • Invitation addresses are stripped of their unique IDs first, so your private invitation links are never sent to Google

opt-in

Nothing is sent to Google unless you accept analytics cookies. If you decline, or withdraw later, Google Analytics is not loaded and the cookies it set are deleted.

2.4. Maps and Videos in Invitations

An invitation can include a map or a video. Both come from other companies that set their own cookies, so they load only if you accept all cookies in the banner, or press the button on that map or video:

  • Google Maps - the map frame on an invitation, and the address search in the editor when a signed-in host uses it
  • YouTube, Vimeo or Spotify - the video or music player on an invitation

opt-in

Nothing reaches these companies until you accept or press the button. If you choose essentials only, each map and video still waits for its button. An invitation's address and its directions link work without loading anything.

We also rely on companies that store nothing on your device at all, such as our payment and email providers. See our Privacy Policy for the full list.

3. Cookie Durations

  • Session cookies: deleted when you close the browser
  • The guest cookie: 6 months
  • An invitation's password cookie: 7 days
  • Analytics cookies, if you accept them: up to 12 months
  • Local storage has no expiry date: it stays until you sign out or clear your browser data

On first visit, we show a cookie banner allowing you to:

  • Accept all cookies
  • Reject non-essential cookies

You may withdraw consent at any time by:

  • Using the Manage cookie settings button below
  • Using the Cookie settings button at the end of an invitation shown at its own web address - that address keeps your choice separately
  • Adjusting browser settings

We do not load any non-essential cookies before you consent.

We remember your choice for six months, then ask again.

5. Managing or Disabling Cookies

You can:

  • Delete cookies in your browser settings
  • Block third-party cookies
  • Decline cookies via our cookie banner
  • Clear your site data, which also removes anything kept in local storage

If you disable essential cookies, the service may not function properly.

6. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this policy when necessary. Changes will be posted on this page.
