What to put on a Halloween invitation
The costume rule
"Costumes required", "costumes welcome" or a theme — say it plainly, so nobody is the only one who came as themselves.
Who it is for
A grown-ups' party, a teenagers' night or a family trick-or-treat — it changes everything from the start time to the snacks.
Time and place
With an end time if the neighbours need one, and the "Getting there" note for the gate code or where to park.
What to bring
A dish, a pumpkin to carve, or nothing at all. Say it once, on the invitation.
A reply-by date
Set a deadline and the form closes itself, so you know how many chairs, cups and zombies to expect.

Haunted house
The old house at the end of the lane has stood empty for a hundred years. On 31 October at 8 pm, the lights come back on. Costumes required.
Costume party
Come as anything that scares you — a vampire, a tax return, your ex. Saturday from 8 pm, with a prize for the best costume.
Family
Little witches and wizards, gather round! Trick-or-treating starts from our door at 5 pm, with soup and cocoa afterwards.
Teenagers
Horror films, pizza and a dark garden. Friday from 7 to 11 pm — parents collect at the gate.
Pumpkin carving
Pumpkins, candles and cocoa: carving starts at 3 pm, and the lanterns go out on the steps at dusk.
Short
Boo. 31 October, 8 pm. Costume, or you are not getting in.

When should a Halloween invitation go out?
Two to three weeks before: long enough for guests to find a costume, short enough that they have not made other plans.
How does the haunted house work?
Guests light the windows one by one, and each one fills in part of the details on the sign. It is one of the free designs.
Can I change the time after sharing it?
Yes. It is one page on one link, so an edit reaches everyone who opens it — nobody is left holding an old version.
Is it free?
Designing the invitation and sharing it as a link is free, and so are the replies and the wishlist. You pay once, for that one event, only if you want kutsu.me to email the invitations and reminders, to ask guests more than their name, or to use a Premium design.
